Senators King (I-ME) and Grassley (R-IA) have introduced the “Accelerating Charitable Efforts Act,”
a bill that would sharply undermine donor-advised funds (DAFs) and private
foundations. This legislation is largely based on the Arnold-Madoff
proposal that we have discussed with you. Please find information about
DAFs here and
a summary of the legislation here.
We are bringing our concerns to Congress,
particularly to those members who sit on the Senate Finance and House Ways
and Means Committees and to Congressional leadership. Part of our advocacy
will include distribution of this sign-on
letter opposing the bill. If your organization is concerned about the
King-Grassley bill, either as an owner of DAFs or as a recipient of grants
from DAFs, please use this link DAF
Congressional Letter Sign-Up Form to register your opposition to the
bill by July
2.
We also encourage you to pass on this
email to your local partners in the Jewish community and beyond asking for
them to sign on to the letter. Please share with your Jewish partners like
nursing homes, JCCs, synagogues and day schools and also pass along this
message to your non-Jewish partners who may be owners of DAFs (community
foundation or local United Way) or are recipients of DAF funds including
human service organizations, YMCAs, camps, and schools.
Best wishes, Elana Broitman Senior Vice President, Public Affairs The Jewish Federations of North America |
